Background:

Large patches of Rainer’s past seem to be shrouded in mystery and is only known by a select few, usually directly involved with said events and while he may give a polite smile to enquiries about past the chances are he will reply in a particular way; “the past is not relevant to the current situation, shall we move on?” That’s not a question, either. The look in his eyes say the subject is changing, don’t be stupid enough to press it.

The small amount about his past that is known however is as follows; he was born in Jorhildr, but obviously did not remain there. That is the only unquestionable area of his past.

During a classified expedition to an undisclosed location by scientists from the nation of Igandea, a discovery was made: dragon eggs. Of course, these eggs developed into dragons and the military forces of Igandea swiftly considered using them as weapons in their conflict with Trivigno and as such went on to try to breed their own dragons for such a purpose. Dragons can only be ridden by their own masters, only people who are compatible with dragons can become masters. During the egg stage, a person wishing to become a master must undergo a painful process called “Resonance” in which the egg will extract DNA from the candidate. If the Resonance is unsuccessful it is said to be fatal for the one attempting to sync. Only the dragon’s counterpart may ride their own dragon.

Dragons being used as weapons though has never been officially confirmed and the project remains relatively secret.

Of a small handful of riders however, Rainer is one of them, not to mention the leader of the Lindworm Unit and is rarely seen without his dragon counterpart, Howlingstar, commonly seen in his ‘Communicator’ form, in other words, a human form. As the name suggests, it is this form that allows the dragons to communicate with their masters as well as providing a flawless disguise.

Personality:

While well-mannered, respectful and at times charming, the chances are that you’ll see him like this while he’s in public. During work he can be described as cold, calculating, aloof and strict. He can’t afford mistakes in his line of work and carelessness on the part of his team is not tolerated. He is civil with the members of his group though, they are team mates after all.

Orders are orders - if he is assigned to do something then it will be done, without question. That is the way of things and little will change that even if it goes against his own better judgement. The word from the superiors is law and he needs to set an example for his team mates.

The other side of his personality is to do with his private life, but as suggested his private life if private. It’s no-one’s concern but his own and those he wishes to share it with.

Relationships between masters and their dragons differ dramatically depending on the pair. In the case of Rainer and Howlingstar, the master is not one to openly pamper his dragon while business needs to be seen to - their bond is strong but when work needs to be done Rainer’s words are expected to be followed. Outside the working hours however remains a mystery.
